Surrogacy is a reproductive technology, in which a woman consents on a voluntary basis to get pregnant, carry and deliver a child genetically unrelated to her. After delivery the child will be in care of the other persons - genetic parents. They will be legally regarded as parents of this child in spite of the fact that he/she had been carried and delivered by a surrogate mother.
Surrogacy program can be indicated under the following circumstances:
- absent uterus (condition or as a result of a surgery);
- Deformity of the uterine cavity orthe uterine cervix deformity caused by congenital abnormalities or by diseases which make it impossible to carry a child;
- serious somatic diseases which make carrying of a pregnancy dangerous for a woman’s health and life, but do not congenital influence health of a future child;
- synechia of the uterus cavity, that cannot be cured;
- no implantation in IVF programs - unsuccessful repeated attempts of IVF (4 and more) when numerous embryos of a high quality were obtained, but their transfer did not result in pregnancy;
- recurrent pregnancy loss.
Requirements for surrogate mothers:
- a women must be between the ages of 20 and 35;
- she must have a healthy child of her own;
- mental and somatic health (no contraindications for carrying of a pregnancy and delivery).
If a surrogate mother is married, it is necessary to obtain her husband’s written and notarized consent for participation in IVF program.
The fact that surrogacy program solves the most urgent social problems is certain. It helps people, who have despaired of having their own child. For them this is the only chance to have a genetically akin baby. Children born through surrogacy are loved and long-expected… No doubt, these people perform an exploit, which is admirable.
