What is selective reduction and why is it applied?

This procedure is carried out in case of multiple pregnancy after 7 weeks of pregnancy to prevent noncarrying, which in this case occurs 3-4 times more often than insinglet pregnancies.  Selective reduction is termination of fetus development by way of gestation sac puncture through posterior vaginal vault with ultrasonic guidance.
