Donor Programs

Gamete donation - is a procedure, in which donors on a voluntary basis registered in writing provide their germ cells - gametes (male gametes, oocytes) to be used for treatment of the other people, suffering from infertility.

Gamete donors can not undertake parental obligation to future children. Sperm donation is a program which enables single women or couples, suffering from absolute male infertility, to have children.

Donors undergo a special selection which includes genetic testing. Their state of health is being constantly under a medical control.

Patients can choose a suitable donor by phenotypic description.

Oocyte and sperm donation has become possible for the last 15 years owing to the development of IVF method.

Oocyte donation is indicated in the following cases:

01 Pregnancy is impossible without donor gametes application because of:

  • natural menopause associated absence of oocytes;
  • premature ovarian failure;
  • ovarianresistance syndrome;
  • stateafter ovariotomy, radiation or chemical therapy;
  • abnormal development of genitals (gonadal dysgenesis, Turner syndrome).

02 Other methods turned out to be in effective or have minimal probability of success- unsuccessful repeated attempts of IVF (4 and more), poor reaction of ovaries on superovulation induction, repeated obtaining of embryos of a low quality.

03 If there is a risk of a serious sex-linked genetic disease transmission (haemophilia, Myodystrophy of the Duchenne type, ichthyosis, miotrofiya Charcot-Marie-Trousseau), if preimplantation diagnosis was impossible or unacceptable.

The procedure implies obtaining oocytes from a healthy young woman, their fertilization by patient’s husband’s sperm and embryo transfer to the patient’s uterus. Both sperm and oocyte donation are voluntary and anonymous procedures.

The following persons can become donors:

  • female acquaintances, relatives;
  • anonymous voluntary donors;
  • IVF patients who provide their oocytes on a voluntary basis, registered in writing.

Requirements for becoming an oocyte donor:

  • a womendonor must be between the ages of 20-32;
  • she must have a healthy child of her own;
  • no pronounced phenotype manifestations;
  • satisfactory health condition;
  • no contraindications for participation in oocyte donation program;
  • no hereditary disorders;
  • no bad habits: drug аbuse, alcohol dependence, toxicomania.

Gamete and embryo donation is a very delicate issue. Quite often the use of donor gametes turns out to be the only way to cure infertility caused by male or female gamete absence. Such a treatment results in satisfying a couple’s wish to have children, which is much more important than infertility treatment itself.
